Taylor Residence

Georgetown, Kentucky 1992
I began this project by making a composite reinterpretation of the cottage dwellings that can be seen in the horse farm landscape of Kentucky. Beyond the local vernacular, there are farm buildings to be found in other rolling landscapes (Tuscany for example) that inspired my search.

The house fits the American dream programmatically
(i.e. 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms & garage) but it
was also constructed entirely of standard items from local suppliers at $53 a square foot. This fulfills my long-standing desire to offer to an average person a house that contains carefully shaped spaces and unashamedly poetic associations at the same cost as a standard ranch house.
