Versailles, Kentucky 1995
This house aspires to make a clear place in the rolling landscape. The scheme makes one move to the right in order to position the garage element. This allows the hedgerow to the north and the virtual edge of the view to the east to provide the closure required to define the raised courtyard that separates the house from the territory beyond.
This is not the theatrical Northeast nor is it the melodramatic West Coast; this is the center. This is the simple reality of the American sky separated downward by the solid ground where, as Wright said, Sense can become a work of art.
